You’ve done it! Three sets of construction plans are in front of you, signed for collective submission to the district administration office. The green set ultimately goes to the building supervisory authority, the red to the client, and the yellow to the municipality. You are thoroughly familiar with the process. You have packed all necessary documents, including calculations and plans, into the folders. Now you can await the approval of your building permit application!

Contents of the training

As an Architectural Drafter (all genders), you accompany a construction project from the initial sketch through the planning and development phase to its final realization and completion. In this role, you develop the ability to create scale drawings and plans of floor plans, elevations, and sections. The primary focus here is the use of a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) program.

You will learn how to handle building and planning law, the construction of building structures, and the detailing of building components such as walls, ceilings, roofs, and stairs.
This means that in addition to building laws, regulations, and standards, you will also gain insight into the detailed planning of attics. Your task is to integrate all elements into your planning.
The projects you will work on are as diverse as the buildings we construct: from paper mills to car dealerships, production halls, office buildings, residential complexes, to swimming pools and zoo facilities – almost everything is included.

You will experience firsthand what happens with construction projects after your drawings are complete, through internships at our own precast concrete plant in Mindelheim and on our construction sites. You will complete internships at the precast plant in your first and third apprenticeship years. You will go to the construction site in the second year of your apprenticeship.

Duration and Process

The apprenticeship generally lasts 3 years. However, with good performance (or a higher school leaving certificate), you can shorten it to 2.5 or 2 years. As the apprenticeship is dual-based, you will regularly attend vocational school in addition to your time with us. In the first year, you will alternate between 2 days at school and 3 days at our company. In the second and third apprenticeship years, you will have block instruction.

The intermediate examination is after 1.5 years. The final examination is at the end of the apprenticeship.
