Bridge over the Donau
Geisingen

After the existing Danube bridge was dismantled due to stress corrosion-prone prestressing steel as part of a preliminary contract, it was rebuilt by Glass GmbH. The structure carries the K5942 over the Donau and connects the city of Geisingen with the adjacent federal highway B 31.
The superstructure was constructed as a three-span, two-web prestressed concrete slab girder. The individual span lengths are (skewed) 19.40 m / 25.00 m / 35.00 m, with a variable superstructure height from h = 1.10 m to h = 1.60 m. The foundation was partly shallow and partly constructed with large-diameter bored piles of 90 cm diameter up to 18 m deep. The foundations of the substructures were constructed using watertight sheet pile cofferdams.
The 35 m long Donau span was freely spanned during construction with heavy falsework without intermediate supports, to minimize the risks in the flood plain area.
