Papierfabrik Palm, a paper factory based in Aalen, has built a newsprint paper machine in King’s Lynn, England, UK, with its PM 7 project. This machine is still regarded as one of the largest and most powerful worldwide. It has a working width of 10.63 m and a speed of 2,000 m/min, thus reaching a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of paper per year. Due to the difficult subsoil situation, it was necessary to make a complex foundation with large bored piles. For the in-situ concrete work around 70,000 sqm of concrete was required, which was produced locally with a mobile mixing plant. The necessary prefabricated components were made in Germany with most of them being delivered by ship.
